Got Any Doubts?
Why use chlorhexidine in root canal treatment?
Broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and unique substantivity — binds to dentin walls and continues releasing antibacterial activity for up to 12 weeks.
Can it be mixed with sodium hypochlorite?
NEVER — creates a brown cytotoxic para-chloroaniline precipitate. Always flush with saline between NaOCl and CHX irrigation.
Concentration?
2% Chlorhexidine Digluconate — the most clinically recommended concentration for endodontic irrigation.
Effective against E. faecalis?
Yes — particularly important for retreatment cases where E. faecalis is the primary causative organism.
How much to use per canal?
5–10ml as the final irrigant. Always preceded by a saline flush to remove all residual NaOCl.
